LES 1001 PATTES SAFARI : OUR HISTORY

In October 2021, two travel enthusiasts, Philippe and Stéphanie, realized a shared dream: to embark on an adventure in Tanzania. This unique trip enabled them to discover the wealth of wildlife in this fascinating country. Lovers of wide open spaces and animals, they chose to live an immersive experience in the heart of Tanzania’s emblematic natural parks, thanks to a safari.

THE DECISIVE MEETING WITH OMARY

During their journey, they met Omary, a seasoned French-speaking guide with over 10 years’ experience. Renowned for his in-depth knowledge of the region’s treasures, Omary passionately shares the wonders of his country with visitors from all over the world.

In the course of their discussions, Omary confided in Philippe and Stéphanie his dream: to create his own company to offer authentic and unique experiences to tourists, far from the beaten track. Inspired by his vision and expertise, they decided to join forces with him to turn this dream into reality.

Thus was born Les 1001 Pattes Safari, a family-run business dedicated to offering personalized safaris, respectful of the environment and rooted in a friendly, human approach.

WHY THE NAME LES 1001 PATTES?

The company’s name may seem original, but it takes on its full meaning when we think back to the two Frenchmen’s first trip to Tanzania. During their stay in the Serengeti Park, after a long day spent exploring the trails and observing the wildlife, they found… a centipede in their room! Amused by this unusual little encounter, they decided to make a symbolic reference to it.

The name evokes not only their first memory of Tanzania, but also the countless paw prints they came across in the parks: those of lions, elephants, zebras and other emblematic animals. In this way, Les 1001 Pattes becomes a metaphor for travel, discovery and the richness of Tanzania’s wildlife.

A GROWING FAMILY ADVENTURE

Since its creation, Les 1001 Pattes Safari has grown while preserving its family-friendly spirit. On their second trip to Tanzania, the two Frenchmen brought along Philippe’s daughter Maeva. Seduced by the beauty of the country and the company’s mission, Maeva joined the family adventure. Today, she is in charge of communications, putting her creativity to good use to promote the company worldwide.

YOUR GUIDE : OMARY MAULID !

My name is Omary Maulid, father of five.

Born in the city, I grew up in the village of Babati, where I helped my grandfather herd cattle and protect crops from hippos. When I returned to the city, I took on a series of odd jobs: hairdresser, singer, cartoonist. My adolescence was marked by a complicated relationship with my father, which led me to leave home. I tried my luck in the mines in search of Tanzanite, without success, then I worked in Dar Es Salam in difficult conditions.

In 2003, I came back to Arusha to reconcile with my father. In 2004, he supported me financially to attend a tourism school, where I learned French. That same year, I got married, but as our views on life differed, we divorced. I then remarried and started a family.

I started accompanying tourists in 2008, but it wasn’t until 2019 that I was able to operate fully as an independent driver-guide. Passionate about nature and animals, I’ve always dreamed of setting up my own business to share my love of the savannah.

Today, this dream has come true with Les 1001 Pattes, an adventure launched with two friends to help travelers from all over the world discover Tanzania.
